Thanks for your mail. As you may know, The Greens/EFA group is at the heart of the fight against ACTA. Acta threatens indeed fundamental rights of the European citizens. It also poses a serious threat to access to medicines, for the protection of biodiversity or the right for our farmers to freely seed. For now more than four years, the Greens/EFA ask for the rejection of ACTA.

having received a number of concerns, calls for rejection and outspoken arguments from citizens all over Europe to vote against Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement between the EU and its Member States, Australia, Canada, Japan, the Repulic of Korea, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland and the USA (ACTA), let me reassure you that in the upcoming vote in the European parliament, this dossier will not receive my support.

ACTA transfers questions of copyright-, patent- and trademark-infringement, from civil law to criminal law, in 39 countries (assuming that Germany, Estonia, Cyprus, the Netherlands and Slovakia will ratify it)* and stipulates, without democratic authority, what that criminal law shall consist of.

I have received a great deal of correspondence from constituents on the topic of ACTA and I understand your concern over the potential implications of the Agreement. I have been watching the progress of the negotiations closely and the Parliament has been active and vocal on this issue since the start of the discussions.
